As digital marketers, we come online and we learn and learn and learn the technology. However at some point in time you need to start selling something. Whether it is your knowledge, your services or a product. So, what are you selling?
This blog has some affiliate links to products that I use. This means if you would make a purchase of any of the products, I may receive a commission but there is no extra cost to you.
What Are You Selling?
Yes, as digital marketers we get stuck in a rut of learning and never selling anything.
In my case I needed to do a lot of learning. Stepping out of the medical field into the digital space, I needed to learn more about and how the technology works.
I have so much in my head, it won’t hold anymore right now. I have to get it out before I can put more in.
Does this sound familiar? Not sure how to actually start to sell something? Something you have…. all that knowledge can help someone. You just have to be brave enough to reach out to your audience.
This is the holiday season and almost the beginning of a new year. People are looking for what you have. Again it is your knowledge, your service or a product. What are you selling?
Learning Costs Money
There are some things you can learn for free but mostly education costs and can cost a lot. Selling what you have is a way to recoup some of that money. After all it is unfair to keep this knowledge to ourselves.
That is not the way life is suppose to be! Someone taught you what they learned. It cost you to learn that too. Now you need to get out and sell what knowledge, service or product you have.
What I am saying is you need to get into action. Scary? Yes it is because of the thoughts you are having now, “I don’t know enough. Who is going to want what I have? How can I answer their questions?”
This is like the next step you will fall off a cliff! No not exactly, you won’t. What you will find when you are selling something it is fun. Why? Because you are doing what is suppose to happen in life, we have to give it to others. By giving it to others does not mean always free. Again, it cost you and it is ok to charge someone that they might grow and learn.
The saying is, “you only need to be a third grader to a first grader.”
Here is a LIVE Hilary and I did for this subject. Listen to what we say about what you can and should be selling as people are looking and buying.
Your Own Product Or Someone Else’s
There is selling going on now. Have you decided what you will be selling?
You should have your sales pages done and your websites. You should already know what you are going to sell.
What you are selling does not always have to be your own. I’m not saying you can’t sell other people’s products. Internet marketing and affiliate marketing are great things too.
Think about this as two prongs. Are you selling your products and services or are you selling someone else’s products and services. When you ask that question you will know exactly whose business you are building!
You learned it for a reason. Yes to make you smarter, to move you forward especially as an entrepreneur. I paid, doctors paid, college professors paid and you probably have paid and so you have to share. You also can expect payment for what you are giving. You are giving a service, knowledge that you worked hard for.
I thought I couldn’t do that because it’s not fair. Think about this, how fair is it to get charged at the doctor’s office, to get charged to go to college and learn?
Remember it was not free to you, that knowledge. It is ok to charge someone else to teach them what you know to help them.
If you have not watched or read my blog on the Six Strategies to Boosting your Holiday Marketing and actually any time of the year to sell watch/read it.

Hey Deb, Spot on! I think alot of entrepreneurs don't think about what they are selling. They jump straight into online activities and don't think about their product or service and focus on how to deliver that. Great topic!
Thanks for commenting, Hilary. I believe at first we are thinking only money. We have to realize we are here to serve.
Great information so often we want to share what we learn and don't put the value to it that we should. When you pay for something you're much more likely to really value it and use it. Great blog!!
Thank you for commenting, Heidi. We believe we most of the time really under sell ourselves.
