Need to write a blog and not sure what to write? Here are 17 blog post formulas to Supercharge your blogging Cheat Sheet!

This blog has some affiliate links to products that I use. This means if you would make a purchase of any of the products, I may receive a commission but there is no extra cost to you.

Use these 17 different formulas to create incredibly compelling and clickable blog posts. Each formula represents a different type of blog post.

You can use them any time especially on the days you are stuck for needing an idea.

Formula #1: How To Guides And Tutorials

You can guide your audience step-by-step through a particular process, showing them how to achieve a desired outcome.

Formula #2: News And Current Events

Write about relevant news and current events, inserting your own thoughts and commentary. This could possibly get you quite a few comments.

Formula #3: Controversy

Write about a controversial subject in a way that is helpful to your audience and not overly offensive. Remember you are writing to give value and build your audience not lose them.

Formula #4: Checklists

Help your audience remember everything they need about a particular subject by creating an in-depth checklist.

This one you could even take it a bit farther and write about the Law Of Attraction Planner. This will help them everyday through the whole year. It helps with every aspect of their life. This year 2021 was the first I used it. I already have my planner for net year and have it filled out. Check it out.

Formula #5: Listicles

Create a very large list of items that are relevant to your audience.

I will be honest, I am not sure how to use this suggestion.

Formula #6: Case Studies

Show your audience how you or one of your customers achieved success during a specific timeframe.

This can be many different success stories in many different areas. However if you are selling products, example weight loss, and one of your customers has much success with it, they would be the one to tap.

Formula #7: Profiles and Interviews

Profile or interview someone who would be of interest to your audience.

Interviews are my favorite. They are fun and you can share a lot especially if you are doing a LIVE video. Also, if you are shy about doing LIVEs having someone with you makes it much easier.

Formula #8: The Expert Roundup

Gather a large number of opinions from experts on a particular subject and compile them into a single post.

I have not personally done this one so I can’t give any insights.

Formula #9: Reviews and Comparisons

Review a product or compare two different products and let your audience know which one is better and why.

I have only done reviews of my network marketing company’s products. I did not compare them to any other as I don’t take any other products!

Formula #10: Resource Roundup

Provide links to a large number of resources that are related to a specific subject.

This one could cover many different things. Take your choice.

Formula #11: Quote Roundup

Gather a large number of quotes that are related to one topic and compile them into a single blog post.

I like to do quotes on social media. I had not thought of doing them in a blog this way. Let me sure with you what a friend said. When you do a quote as a social media post don’t just put the quote. Do a little writing why you like this post, how it makes you feel or what it reminds you of. Put something personal with the quote. This help your audience understand and maybe feel the same thing. It can help you find your target audience.

Formula #12: Behind the scenes/A day in the life

Take your audience behind the scenes of your life and business, giving them a snapshot of what a particular day looks like.

This also helps your audience know who you are. It does help your brand which is you.

Formula #13: Data-Backed Posts

Either do original research and write about it or write something based on research done by others.

This almost goes along with Formula #3 Controversy. If you have done the research you have something to back it up or use someone else’s research.

Formula #14: Inspirational Stories

Tell your audience an inspirational story that is related to your business and furthers your business objectives.

I have done an inspirational story about something in my life not necessarily my business.

Formula #15: Frequently Asked Questions

Answer questions in your blog post that you are frequently asked either in person or via email.

Formula #16: Top Takeaways

Provide your top takeaways from a particular book, conference, podcast, movie or other item.

I have done this with books and a couple of conferences I attended.

Formula #17: Beginner’s Guide

Create how-to posts that guide beginners through a particular set of actions or process.

I have written a couple ebooks for beginners. I need to put some of the info into a post.

I hope this will help you when you have a day when it seems nothing is inspiring you to write. I have those days occasionally.

If you found value please share this to the social media I have on the side or at the bottom.

To Your Success,

Deb

Looks like someone is going to writing 17 blog posts next month!!! This is amazing. I'm going to start doing some of these. Ideas are on thing but when you have a formular to work with, you can churn out blog posts daily!

      • Deb Andrews

I totally agree, Hilary. Having a list like this helps for the days that the content juices are not running so fast! Thank you for commenting.

    • Heidi Albertson

      • Deb Andrews

Thank you , Heidi for commenting. Sometimes having a list like this I have found helps the content creation juices flowing.

    • Sinziana

Thank you for all these tips. Very good ideas Deb.

      • Deb Andrews

You are so welcome. I know when I started it took me awhile to write one and seemed even longer to write number 2. I just knew I needed to share these tips to help anyone that gets “writer’s block” especially new bloggers. Thank you for commenting.

Thank you for this list! There are some types of posts that I haven't really delved into! I will keep this in mind!

      • Deb Andrews

Dominique, thank you for commenting. That is what the list is for. For those times when someone is having a time trying to decide what to write. I know I have been there on occasion. Happy writing to you. 🙂

This post is a listicle, and a good one!! Sure, it's not a "very large" list, but I don't think they all have to be. I think it's long enough because you said helpful things about each one. I have heard, though, that listicles become even more powerful when you advertise that it is one in the headline. Like "17 Ways to Supercharge Your Blogging with Blog Post Formulas," etc. I like these ideas, specifically because it could help me switch things up, so that my posts don't end up all being similar in style. Plus, they say longer posts are better and almost all of your suggestions would help you create a longer post. I'm going to bookmark this, so I can go back to it!

      • Deb Andrews

Jeanine, thank you for commenting. Some of my blogs aren’t long however when I know there is value for me it is ok. I used me as an example. If I am reading a blog and it seems to keep growing the more I read and still haven’t gotten to something of value for me, I stop reading. None of us really wants that!

    • Tamara

What a structured approach! I usually have an idea and just start writing 😉

#5: Listicles: I think your very blog post here is a good representation of it!

      • Deb Andrews

Tamara, thank you for commenting. I love the idea that this blog gave so many ideas to write. We all have that “block” I believe at times. Happy writing to you!

    • Martha

You just gave me some great ideas for my blogs! What an awesome list, thank you Deb!

      • Deb Andrews

Martha, I’m glad to help. I remember when I first got started. It seemed like it took forever to decide “what to write that has value”.
