There have been many influencers for me. Especially several books I’ve read. That is for another blog.

I do have one in particular that has pretty much been a constant influencer in my life.

This blog has some affiliate links to products that I use. This means if you would make a purchase of any of the products, I may receive a commission but there is no extra cost to you.

My Influencer

I became an entrepreneur 12 years ago. Did I need help learning how to be an entrepreneur? Yes, I sure did. I stepped out of the medical field and knew medicine.

I had my upline that helped me for awhile. They were teaching me how to help their bottom line as I taught my downline to help my bottom line. That really isn’t the kind of influencer I am talking about.

The influencer I am talking about came into my life when I brought my business online. As I said I stepped out of the medical field and really knew nothing about technology.

What to do what to do!? I had to invest in myself if I was going to take my business anywhere. Invest I did!!! Lots of money to a marketing company that was going to teach me they said.

Their kind of teaching was very hard for me. Why? Because I was learning from videos. Videos that used terminology that I didn’t understand.

In all fairness there was one person who taught on many of the videos. She taught in a way that helped me understand better. It was her way of teaching that helped me. My only problem though was I couldn’t ask questions. I have to understand completely in my mind in order to move to the next step. I am a person who asks lots of questions. That I attribute to my medical background. I had to ask lots of questions of my patients so I could help them.

The videos left me frustrated only for that reason.

One day it was announced this woman was leaving. She was moving on for her own path. Needless, to say I was a little distraught. I was learning slowly from her. What am I going to do now?

Before she left there was a conference I was going to attend. All of the marketing people would be there.

The Day We Met

This was the day we met!!!

With the price of learning, professional pictures were included. Mine were scheduled early in the morning.

As I walked around where I was meeting the photographer, there by the pool she sat. I could tell she was journaling or planning what she was going to do on stage. I didn’t know and I also didn’t care kind of. This might be the only time I could introduce myself to her and of course get a picture!

I softly called her name, Chef. She looked up and I apologized for disturbing her and introduced myself. I thanked her for helping me on the videos. Then of course I asked could we take a picture together. She was so polite and generous.

I always said the only person I would fall all over myself if I got to meet them was the Pope. Oh my gosh, I was a complete blushing, excited “tourist” getting my picture with some one famous at least in my eyes.

I was glad I took the chance because other than on stage I didn’t see her again.

So you are asking who is this woman? Her name is Katrina van Oudheusden. If you noticed I called her Chef. She was a chef at Disney World for 12 years before also stepping into the entrepreneurial world.

She stepped away from the marketing company to start her business with Pinterest. She now is one of the top 5 Pinterest Gurus in the world.

Sometimes it is funny how life happens. I don’t believe in luck or coincidence. It was a few months later she walked into my life again or should I say I walked into hers!

I joined her Pinterest group that eventually became a Mastermind. Boy am I a glutton for punishment or what? I knew nothing about Pinterest. So again I am learning from below the scratch. The difference is she is right there and I can ask my questions.

One day I got up the nerve to ask her if she would mentor me. She said YES!

I can’t tell you how much I’ve grown with technology, Pinterest and because of her I am in this blog challenge. Yes, I just keep growing with her as she grows her businesses.

Not only is she still my mentor, she has become my friend. Here we are in Jamaica on an entrepreneurial trip with the community that we are in.

Katrina is my biggest influencer. I hope you have an influencer and friend as I have.

To Your Success,

Deb

What a great story of learning and friendship. She sounds like a wonderful mentor and your relationship sounds like a positive and supportive experience. Congrats for having the foresight – and courage to initiate a formal mentor relationship. I have had a number of mentors in different phases of life and they have had influence and a positive impact but most have been in my life for only a short time while in the same location – before the easy access to tools like zoom and facetime.
